The Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary are a series of meditations on significant events in the lives of Jesus and Mary, including:
Below, you’ll find Scripture passages for each of these mysteries. If you don’t know yet how to pray the Rosary—or if you could use a quick refresher—you’ll find a brief guide for praying the Rosary here.
A different set of mysteries is prayed each day of the week, following this schedule:
Monday Rosary: Joyful Mysteries
Tuesday Rosary: Sorrowful Mysteries
Wednesday Rosary: Glorious Mysteries
Thursday Rosary: Luminous Mysteries
Friday Rosary: Sorrowful Mysteries
Saturday Rosary: Joyful Mysteries
Sunday Rosary: Glorious Mysteries
The Glorious Mysteries are prayed on Sundays, the day we remember Jesus’ Resurrection, as well as on Wednesdays.
The Resurrection of Christ by Paolo Veronese (detail)
During the first Marian apparition at Fatima in 1917, one of Our Lady’s messages was a call to pray the Rosary daily for world peace and an end to World War I. A daily devotion to the Rosary has since spread throughout the Church and is still popular today.
If you don’t think you have time to pray the Rosary every day, here are some creative ways to incorporate this powerful prayer into your busy schedule:
Don’t be daunted by the length of the Rosary—praying just a decade of the Rosary devoutly is better than rushing through the entire prayer halfheartedly (or not praying at all). Start small, be consistent, and gradually build your habit of praying the Rosary every day.
*At the end of each decade, it’s common to include a prayer requested by Our Lady of Fatima: O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell; lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who have most need of your mercy.
The Assumption of the Virgin by Luca Giordano
Praying the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary is a powerful devotional practice for many reasons:
1. It will help you increase in faith and holiness.
2. It will provide you with special graces and Our Lady’s protection.
3. It will give you deeper insight into important events during and after Jesus’ Resurrection.
The Glorious Mysteries are perfect to pray with throughout the Easter season, although it’s fitting to remember the victory Our Lord won over sin and death anytime of year! Again, if you need a quick guide on how to pray the Rosary, you’ll find one here.
The Risen Christ by Simone Cantarini (detail)
“After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, approached, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. His appearance was like lightning and his clothing was white as snow. The guards were shaken with fear of him and became like dead men. Then the angel said to the women in reply, ‘Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said.’”
Matthew 28:1–6
The Ascension by Benjamin West (detail)
“When they had gathered together they asked him, ‘Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?’ He answered them, ‘It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority. But you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’ When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight.”
Acts 1:6–9
Pentecostés by Juan Bautista Maíno
“When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.”
Acts 2:1–4
Assumption of Mary by Guido Reni (detail)
“Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, and peals of thunder, an earthquake, and a violent hailstorm.”
Revelation 11:19
Statue of Our Lady of the Seas, Tyre, Lebanon
“A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars…. She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod.* Her child was caught up to God and his throne.”
